A Forgotten Birthday

I realised I forgot to wish you happy birthday last year. Happy birthday, K. I hope you had fun. Then again, without me, how will you?

What the Stars Say for 27 April 09

The stars say, "Conflicts are not necessarily a bad thing in life -- they can spark a new romance".

I say to-may-to, you to-mah-to. I want comfort, you couch. I adore him, you Him.

What a way to kill any spark of romance.

Just When I Thought

Yummilicious martinis at the opulent Majestic Bar on Friday evening. How could I have not visited it before?! A delectable French dinner affair coupled with a bottle of un-dry red followed closely. Something illegal might or might not have taken place after.

Saturday started off with an art film starring Robert from Twilight. With the zealous, no, make that overzealous screaming teenager girls, I begin to wonder why I crawled out of bed and was at the theatre at 11.30am. Then I remembered. It was for dear Joey who might be a little obsessed with dear Robert.

The afternoon was a non-stop laughing event with Monopoly being the centre of attention in a lovely room on the 19th floor of Fairmont. Jaslynn emerged the winner with total winnings of 32 million dollars! Each trip to Rome cost Joey, Yvonne and I 5.5 million dollars. I've decided Rome is not a nice place to visit, at least in Monopoly.

As the evening approached, off to NAFA I go for an Hindi play titled "Coming Soon". Yes, you read that right. Hindi play. I didn't understand a word of it but art knows no boundaries. I am pretty sure I am the only other non-Indian in the audience, apart from the videographer, Mr Black. They must have been as shocked as I am to see me there.

A short walk and I find myself standing in the grounds of La Salle. Loving the organic architecture structure, unstraight lines and daring use of colour black. Unboring, so unlike NAFA. I think a dash of red would complete the picture. But then again, black and red would have been so cliche, no?

Sunday led me to a nice buffet event at Fairmont. Joey and I found a secret corner where we ate to our tummy's delight. Exploring brings about pleasant surprises. I'm hopeful about the OZ trip now. Joey liked the bridal suit. I like that Joey liked it because Fairmont doesn't serve sharks' fin. Off with thy head, thou sharks' fin lovers!

Another art film, Magique, kept me occupied for Sunday evening. Acrobats, fire jugglers, clowns, tightrope walkers, trapeze acts, trained jack russell, saw-ed singing bodies... I want to watch a live circus performance! Cirque du Soleil won't do it for me anymore. For now, I'll just have to settle for Britney.

Paid a short visit to one of my favourite places, National Museum of Singapore. Sometimes, I wished I worked there. Must be inspiring to be inspired daily. Missed Lacroix though. A boo made me jumped. I didn't think that was funny but still, I laughed heartily. It's always the little things you remember.

An intentional longer CTE ride which I doubt is intentional and I'm home.

Just when I thought I was settling into a routine and the weekend would come and go with the blink of an eye, there was a blip on the Holter machine.

I am now eating my own words. With pleasure.

Houston, Let the Countdown Begin

Four more days.
Three cities.
Two luggage.
One traveller.

Houston, we have a problem.

I Will Pay

I really need to start picking up my books again. They don't look good hidden beneath their Christmas wrappers.

On top of promising myself to listen to Learn-French-On-The-Go for 15 minutes a day, I need to become versed in a few more foreign swear words. Just in case the situation for the need to communicate effectively with any person, who might have too thick a skull, arises. One never knows.

Discipline. Where can I buy it?
I.will.pay.any.amount.

It's Just Routine, Madam

Dinner.
Drinks.
Club.
Supper.

A typical Friday night. I'm afraid I'm settling into a routine.

Whatever happened to my "stepping out of comfort zone"?

Oh wait, I have a pending suicidal OZ trip. That's gonna to bring me waaaaaaaaay out of the comfort zone.

I Love To Strip

I don't like to post pictures because I refuse to spend an obscene amount of time editing them. A picture may say a thousand words but really, do I need to be so long-winded?

I love posting comic strips though. Stripping is fun. Ha.

What the Stars Say for 21 April 09

The stars say, "It's going to be an easy breezy day for you -- all the hard choices are behind you".

An air ticket is all I have for now. Tell me exactly how is it going to be a breezy day?

For That, I'm Too Old

I don't have the patience for games. Nor do I have the desire. Nor the energy. Nor the time. Nor the tolerance.

I'm too old for that. Yes, for that, I'll admit I'm too old.

Spring Fever, The Sequel

In times of such economic turmoil, one has to watch one's purse strings.

Of course, these UNwise words wouldn't have come from me. But I'd always believe in working smart, not hard. Thus, I'd say buy a few pieces and max the trends, dah-ling~ (Post is especially for you, Jess.)

Only trend missing is Pastel Suits. That's just not my thing.

I Insist

Manchester United 0 - 0 Everton

That was the score when the whistle was blown. I insist.

Choices

Weihao chose Guitar Hero over Man-U match. Weihao won. Man U lost.

Joey chose Guitar Hero over sleep. Joey won. Man U lost.

It may be Weihao's birthday but Man U ain't celebrating.

Lucias vs Hilter

Happy birthday to Weihao! Your birthday wish of mastering "Damnit" on the drums came true~

And Unhappy birthday to his infamous counterpart, Hilter.

Three birthdays celebrations, not counting Hilter's, over three days. It's been quite a ride. I'm happy.

Wii's Wii Party

There was a rocking Wii party at Wii's place over the weekend. Everyone took turns to strum, drum and sing to their hearts' content. If Weihao and I ever get the pinkslip, we can always go on a world tour with Joey. Jas can be our manager since she doesn't like to be on stage.

Who'd thought our second career option would stem from nearly breaking our wrists on Wii?

What the Stars Say for 18 April 04

I booked a ticket to OZ. For one traveller.

SFF - Worlds Apart / To Verdener

WORLDS APART / TO VERDENER
By Niels Arden Oplev / Denmark / 2008 / NC16 / 108 min / National Museum of Singapore / 16 April 2009

A young girl is torn apart between faith and freedom, family and love in this film with no easy answers.

Sara’s whole world is Jehovah's Witnesses. Born and bred in the faith, she and her close-knitted family live an unwavering life of church meetings, proselytizing and Scripture reading. They live in a community where everyone knows each other their entire lives, where outsiders seldomintrude and expulsion awaits anyone who is unrepentant in sin and questions authority. But when young Sara falls in love with a non-believer, her world is shattered and the path she must take is lonesome and heartbreaking. A big hit in Denmark, the film raises an interesting question: how far can parents go when it comes to indoctrinating their children with insular religious beliefs? Director Niels Arden Oplev’s last feature film, We Shall Overcome, won 27 international awards. Selected as Denmark’s official entry for the Best Foreign Film Category in this year’s Oscars.

Wii's thoughts.
I like that it's 108 min long but not draggy. I liked its cinematography. I liked the way they speak - so gentle even when they are infuriated. I like how they portray Jehovah's Witnesses in a illiberal but not negative light. Most of all, I liked the lighting - it's soft and appropriate.

I have newfound liking for Indie films.

Chaos Theory

My workstation is the epitome of organised chaos.

Pen holder (with pens, pencil, marker, scissors, ruler, correction liquid, stapler), file stand (with notebook, envelopes, brochures from recruitment firms, newspaper, ), calendar, calculator, Avaya telephone, lightbulb balloon, many many magnets, super cool postit dispenser, four packets of tissue paper, one box of tissue paper, big perrier bottle, small perrier bottle, bear plush, mr bean plush, four ring files, one resume book of NUS MBA '09 students, another resume book of NUS BBA '09 students, SHL training guide, sunglasses, mobile phone, thumbdrive, staff pass, L'Officiel magazine, L'Occitane handcream, shawl, keys, many many cables, photoframe without a photo, namecard holder, ThinkPad, hair clip, saline solution for lenses, the list goes on...

Thing is many of these don't even belong to me.

Sheldon's Theory

Sheldon's Theory: I am convinced the reason that I cannot master the plebeian task of driving is because I am not meant to. I am meant for greater things. Like contribution to future archaeologists' research for my being further in the evolution chain. Like a Homo novous, if you will.

Wii's Theory: I am convinced the reason that I cannot master the plebeian task of driving is because I am not meant to. I am meant for greater things. Like contributing to the economy and ensuring cabbies bring the bacon home.

The things Sheldon and I do...

Hot and Cold by Katy Perry

{This is so catchy. I do very much love trashy pop. It's the little things that make you smile.}

You change your mind
Like a girl changes clothes
Yeah you, PMS
Like a bitch
I would know

And you always think
Always speak
Crypticly

I should know
That you're no good for me

[Chorus]
Cause you're hot then you're cold
You're yes then you're no
You're in and you're out
You're up and you're down
You're wrong when it's right
It's black and it's white
We fight, we break up
We kiss, we make up

You, You don't really want to stay, no
You, but you don't really want to go-o
You're hot then you're cold
You're yes then you're no
You're in and you're out
You're up and you're down
[Chorus]

We used to be
Just like twins
So in sync
The same energy
Now's a dead battery
Used to laugh bout nothing
Now your plain boring

I should know that
you're not gonna change

[Repeat Chorus]

Someone call the doctor
Got a case of a love bi-polar
Stuck on a roller coaster
Can't get off this ride

You change your mind
Like a girl changes clothes

[Repeat Chorus]

You, you don't really want to stay, no
You, but you don't really want to go-o
You're hot then you're cold
You're yes then you're no
You're in and you're out
You're up and you're down

Spring Fever

Spring is here! Yes, I know I'm a month behind but better late than never~

In my bid to update my wardrobe, I googled the must-have trends of S/S09. If you don't know what S/S means, this post most probably ain't worth your time.

So here's some food for thought. (trends courtesy of glamour.com)

Zipper Accents
Once relegated to Michael Jackson impersonators and lead singers in punk bands, zipper accents turned up on spring’s most feminine pieces. The flirty zipper trim on Phillip Lim’s silk tank balances downtown edge with uptown elegance.

Relax-Fit Pants
Forget about wide-leg or skinny jeans. Spring’s must-have silhouette: relax-fit pants. Similar to the boyfriend jeans Katie Holmes has been spotted in lately, the new cut is loose and easy at the hips, then tapers delicately above the ankle. This wins the chilled-out title of Most Comfortable New Trend on the Catwalk!

The Sophisticated Trench
The classic rainy-day essential got an upgrade this season. Designers like Tommy Hilfiger lengthened the cut and fashioned it out of luxe materials like silk and satin—just the thing to wear over a long evening gown or party dress.

Hot Pink
While cobalt blue was the It color of 2008, magenta is shaping up to be the must-have shade of ‘09. Doo.Ri, Matthew Williamson and Adam Lippes coated their collections in the color—which is good news for the rest of us, as it flatters nearly every skin tone.

Oversized Necklaces
Big glittering necklaces topped off many spring looks, but few shone as brightly as those seen on Vera Wang’s runway. Extra-long lariats like hers streamline the silhouette and update any outfit. Translation? One bold necklace is all you need to look fit and fashionable!

Black-on-White Print
The little black dress just got a big boost: As seen at Oscar de la Renta’s show, artful black stripes on a white background make a fresh, graphic statement. (Surely even the original LBD icon Audrey Hepburn would approve!)

The Oversized Pattern Bag
Why carry a basic-black bag when there are so many perky, colorfully printed totes available? On the Miss Sixty runway, models carried bags that matched their sundresses—a bold look that surely would prevent anyone from mistakenly swiping your handbag.

Big Bangles
If the exotic layered-on look à la Marc Jacobs spring 2009 seems too complicated, simplify the new style by slipping on a few big bangles.

A Touch of Neon
Hot acid colors made their return to the runway this season. If revisiting the ’90s-inspired look is something you’d rather avoid, follow Isaac Mizrahi’s lead and incorporate a subtle flash of neon for a fresh and modern style.

Mix-and-Match Patterns
Designers put patterns together in unexpected ways this season. To pull off the kooky-cool style without looking crazy, take cues from Michael Kors and stick to patterns that share the same hues.

Pastel Suit
Say goodbye to the black or gray pantsuit: Erin Fetherston and her fellow designers put a sophisticated spin on the office essential by turning out blazer-and-trouser combos in soft pastel shades. If you have to wear a suit to the office, why not wear a pretty one!

Sequins
Once reserved for evening gowns and ballet recitals, sequins are turning up on daywear. Diane von Furstenberg dusted her playful cardigans, shorts and dresses with the glittering accents. And the best part? When wearing one of spring’s sequined pieces, there’s no need for any other accessories!

The Military Jacket
Often called the Sergeant Pepper jacket—for its appearance on the cover of the Beatles’ 1967 album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band—the cropped military coat returns for spring. With a sharply tailored fit and subtle embellishment on the front, the style serves as a great alternative to the jean jacket or blazer.

Colour-Block Prints
You’ll want to give floral prints a rest for a season or two. Instead, try bold blocks of color in complementary shades over spring’s loose, sexy pieces.

'80s Flair
Many designers, including up-and-comer Alexander Wang, revisited the ’80s and brought back plenty of cropped cuts and vivid colors. We suggest skipping the hot shorts and crop tops, but pair a head-turning hot pink jacket with jeans and you’ve got old-school style that doesn’t look dated.

Embellished Boho
Anna Sui, Diane von Furstenberg and other optimistic designers showed laid-back neo-hippie styles on the runway. Get into the swing of things with a colorful, breezy dress, beaded necklace and lace-up flat sandals. Peace out.

It's time to hit the malls! Jessica, you are booked for the next three weekends!

I Have A Type

I am absolutely in love with Sheldon from Big Bang Theory! He does reminds me of Monk and House.

It has come to my attention that I have a type. He's smart, tall and most important of all, has a somewhat highly-warp sense of humor.

I wonder if I should be bemused or amused at this revelation.

What the Stars Say for 4 April 09

The stars say, "It's never easy to let yourself be emotionally exposed, but you should try today".

How many buckets are we talking about?

RE-peat

I've just started watching Big Bang Theory and now, I recognised it as my new obsession. Then I realised I have totally forgotten to update my Weekly Obsession post for eons. Then I remembered I have ADD which explains why I would forget. Then my OCD resurfaced and I know I must finish the show in one sitting. Then I resumed watching Big Bang Theory.

I'm sure you don't want me to recap my day.

When I grow up" speaks to me!
Boys call you sexy (What's up sexy?), and you don't care what they say
See everytime you turn around they're screamin' your name

Now I got a confession (haha, ha, ha ha)
When I was young I wanted attention (haha, ha, ha ha)
And I promised myself that I'd do anything (haha, ha, ha ha)
Anything at all for them to notice me (haha, ha, ha ha)

[chorus]
But I ain't complaining
We all wanna be famous
So go ahead and say what you wanna say
You know what it's like to be nameless
Want them to know what your name is
'Cause see when I was younger I would say

When I grow up I wanna be famous, I wanna be a star, I wanna be in movies
When I grow up I wanna see the world, drive nice cars, I wanna have groupies
When I grow up, be on tv, people know me, be on magazines
When I grow up, Fresh and clean, number one chick when I step out on the scene

But be careful what you wish for cause
you just might get it
you just might get it
you just might get it

But be careful what you wish for cause
you just might get it
you just might get it
you just might get it
[chorus]

They used to tell me I was silly
Until I popped up on the TV (lala la, la la)
I always wanted to be a superstar
Who knew singing songs would get me this far (lala la, la la)

[Repeat chorus]

I see you staring at me
Oh I'm a trendsetter
Yes this is true cus what I do, no one can do it better
You could talk about me, cause I'm a hot topic
I see you watching me watching me and I know you want it

[Repeat chorus X2]
